Nearly 50 years ago, North Memorial opened its doors as a small, 30-bed hospital in Robbinsdale, Minnesota. The "campus" is now a 500-bed medical center and North Memorial is a full-service health care provider serving the needs of more than one million people. It encompasses North Memorial Medical Center, six primary care clinics, regional medical transportation and clinical programs that draw patients from near and far. It provides care in virtually all areas of the medical spectrum from preventive care to inpatient and outpatient care to rehabilitation to hospice.

North Memorial is known as one of Minnesota's premier medical centers for treating the critically ill. Trauma and emergency services are anchored by a Level I Trauma Center verification; it is one of only a handful of hospitals in Minnesota to earn such a distinction. Likewise, North Memorial's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has earned a distinguished Level III verification, meaning that it is equipped to handle the most complex of birthing situations. The North Memorial Heart Center is one of the largest and most recognized in Minnesota, and has been named a "Top 100 Cardiovascular Hospital" by a most acclaimed national hospital ranking service.

North Memorial is well respected in other areas of care as well. North Memorial Hospice was one of the first in Minnesota and has lead a national conference for many years that is attended by practitioners from throughout the world. North Memorial's Humphrey Cancer Institute is so well regarded that the Hubert H. Humphrey Cancer Center has been invited to establish satellite cancer treatment centers at other area hospitals. Regional medical transportation services are the largest of any in the region. And the Physical and Occupational Therapy units do amazing things to give people back their independence, and to provide the best possible quality of life.
