As a teaching hospital, Fairview-University Medical Center--University Campus is known nationally and internationally for its leading-edge treatment and technology.

The hospital is a designated center of excellence for many transplants, and it operates one of the largest, most successful multi-organ transplant programs in the world. Its surgeons have done more than 4,000 kidney transplants, and continue to do more than 200 a year. They also have performed more than 396 liver, 750 pancreas and 513 thoracic transplants, including 333 hearts, 36 heart-lung and 164 lung transplants.

The hospital has the world's oldest and second-largest bone marrow transplant programs, performing more than 200 such procedures each year, and more than 2,455 between 1974 and 1995.

The physicians are also nationally recognized for patient care in the areas of cardiology, oncology and pediatrics. In the diagnosis and treatment of cardiopulmonary problems affecting adults and children, the hospital offers procedures not available everywhere, including valve repair, coronary endarterectomy, balloon valve dilation and electrical surgery to treat ventricular arrhythmias.

The Cancer Center includes the most up-to-date and effective treatments using surgery, radiotherapy, immunotherapy and chemotherapy.

For young patients, there's U Kids of University-Variety Hospital for Children. It has physician experts from more than 30 pediatric specialties and subspecialties, including cystic fibrosis, neonatology, cardiology, oncology, neurosurgery and bone marrow and solid organ transplants.
