Abbott Northwestern Hospital

Abbott Northwestern Hospital is the largest not-for-profit hospital in the Twin Cities area. Each year, the hospital serves more than 180,000 patients from the Twin Cities and Upper Midwest. Services include complete medical, surgical and critical care; 24-hour emergency services; multispecialty care and clinical expertise in cardiovascular services, rehabilitation, oncology, neuroscience, women's services, behavioral health; and more.

Cardiovascular Services In conjunction with the Minneapolis Heart Institute, Abbott Northwestern Hospital offers a full range of services for the early detection, treatment and rehabilitation of heart disease. With more than 25,000 patients a year, it is the area's largest program for the treatment of heart disease. Specialized programs are available for patients needing surgery, cardiac transplantation, angioplasty and treatment of arrhythmia disorders.

Sister Kenny Institute Sister Kenny Institute is nationally recognized as one of the most progressive and comprehensive rehabilitation services. In existence for more than 50 years, the Institute offers medical, therapeutic, vocational and educational programs for people recovering from strokes, spinal cord and brain injuries, chronic pain, work-related injuries and neurological or muscular disorders.

Virginia Piper Cancer Institute The Virginia Piper Cancer Institute provides compassionate, personalized, integrated care to patients and families throughout their experience with cancer. By actively participating in clinical research and multispecialty treatment planning, the Institute offers access to the most current oncology care, utilizing the highest quality technology.

Minneapolis Neuroscience Institute A wide range of neurological evaluation and treatment is available through the Minneapolis Neuroscience Institute. The large volume of neurological care provided enables the Institute to have an ongoing investment in specialized resources and clinical research efforts.

Women's Health Abbott offers health resources for women, including obstetrics and infertility services. The Perinatal Center, a collaboration between Abbott Northwestern Hospital and Children's Healthcare--Minneapolis, provides medical expertise in high-risk obstetrics.

Behavioral Health Services The Behavioral Health Services staff of psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, counselors and case managers offers a wide range of individually tailored programs for children, adolescents and adults, including traditional inpatient care, intensive outpatient programs and partial hospital/day care.

Education and Training Abbott Northwestern Hospital is affiliated with many schools, including the University of Minnesota Medical School and St. Mary's Graduate Institute. The hospital is associated with a variety of degree and education programs and serves as a clinical site for local and regional nursing schools and allied health professional training programs.
