Specializing in obstetrics, neonatology and emergency services, HealthEast St. John's has a strong reputation for excellence and has high levels of patient satisfaction.
In fact, a recent independent study named St. John's as one of the top 100 hospitals in the nation, citing its high-quality treatment and clinical excellence. The study found that St. John's patients averaged fewer complications and a lower mortality rate than comparable patients elsewhere.
Such impressive results may be part of the reason that 99 percent of St. John's patients say they would use this hospital again, and a comparable percentage say they are satisfied with the attention and medical treatment they received. All patient rooms are private.
Staff members at St. John's take a very patient-centered approach to care. Interdisciplinary teams of physicians, residents, nurses, social workers, chaplains, therapists and others meet every weekday to review each patient's situation and make sure he or she gets the full range of care and support needed.
For pregnant women, there's a new addition to the hospital that's devoted exclusively to obstetrical care. Labor, delivery and post-partum care all occur in the same room. Should an infant be born prematurely or need medical care, there's a Level II nursery, complete with ventilator care. A neonatal nurse practitioner is available 24 hours a day.
St. John's has a very active emergency department. Care is provided by physicians who are board certified in emergency medical services.
