HealthPartners introduces new tools for individual market
Membership in individual plans projected to double in five years
March 19, 2008
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – HealthPartners has new online tools designed to simplify the process for choosing and applying for an individual health plan. HealthPartners developed the interactive tool after its market research showed that 41 percent of members felt confused and had trouble selecting which plan was best for them.
"Picking the right health plan can be a lot like financial planning: it depends on your age, your goals, how much risk you're willing to take and how much money you want to spend," said Doug Smith, HealthPartners senior vice president of sales. HealthPartners interactive tool (http://www.healthpartners.com/individualhelp) asks a consumer seven questions such as age and price range to suggest the most appropriate plan for an individual. Consumers can then apply for a plan online.
About six percent of Minnesotans currently have individual health plans compared to 94 percent of Minnesotans who have coverage through their employer. HealthPartners has about 20,000 members in individual plans. That number is projected to grow 15 percent annually. "In the coming months, we plan to introduce new plans for individuals and we believe that with our award winning service, competitive pricing and these new online tools, consumers will have a great new option," said Smith.
