Returning military vets have unique health care needs
Conference addresses physical and mental health concerns many troops face
April 20, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - HealthPartners Institute for Medical Education is today hosting a conference to help medical professionals be more prepared to treat the specific issues our troops will face as they return home. In addition to addressing specific medical concerns, the conference will feature an in-depth learning experience about military life in Iraq. Participants will experience a mission briefing, hands-on exposure to body armor and the combat environment and a 70-pound pack demonstration.
"With the recent revelation that our wounded and returning troops are not receiving the health care they deserve, our community is responding," said Dr. Carl Patow, executive director of HealthPartners Institute for Medical Education. "This conference will address our returning troops unique needs that will challenge the entire medical health system."
HealthPartners Institute for Medical Education is partnering with The Minnesota Department of Health, the Minnesota Army National Guard and the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs hospital to host the conference Friday, April 20 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Metro State University in St. Paul, Minn.
