Premiums start at $17/month April 13, 2007
ST PAUL, Minn. - For the first time in its 34-year history, the Minnesota Senior Federation is offering statewide dental coverage to its 15,000 members. Under a partnership with HealthPartners, members age 50 and over can choose between dental plans using either the HealthPartners statewide Open Access Network of more than 1700 dental providers, or HealthPartners Dental Group which includes 15 dental clinics in the Twin Cities. Patients can choose out-of-network care for additional out-of-pocket expenses.

Preventive. Includes checkups, x-rays, cleanings, and most fillings. No crowns, bridges or other major restorative. HealthPartners Dental Group network: $22.77; statewide Open Access Network: $26.96

"This coverage meets a strong need for a dental plan for people not covered through an employer," said Lois Williams, President, Minnesota Senior Federation Board of Directors. "It is similar to coverage and premiums in employer plans with added features for seniors." Current members can enroll in the dental plans through April 30, 2007. Anyone can become a member of the Minnesota Senior Federation at any time. Non-members may take advantage of this new member benefit by calling the Minnesota Senior Federation at 651-645-0261, or 1-877-645-0261 to request membership information.
"Access to dental care is particularly important for older people because gum disease is correlated with other health problems such as heart disease and diabetes; many medications taken by seniors increase the risk of dental disease," said Craig Amundson D.D.S., HealthPartners dental director. For more information, call HealthPartners at 952-883-5600 or 1-800-247-7015, and press the option for the Individual Sales department.
