HealthPartners Institute of Medical Education director named president of national association

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - Carl A. Patow, MD, MPH, executive director of HealthPartners Institute for Medical Education has been named President of the Board of Directors for the Alliance of Independent Academic Medical Centers. The AIAMC, founded in 1989, is made up of nearly 70 major academic medical centers and health systems, committed to quality patient care, medical education and research.
The AIAMC Nominating Committee selected Dr. Patow based upon his leadership of the AIAMC National Initiative: Improving Patient Care Through Graduate Medical Education.
"I believe that Carl's vision and leadership will take the Alliance to the next level in our quest to be the leading authority in the area of integration of academics and quality" said Kimberly Pierce-Boggs, executive director of AIAMC.
In his role as President, Dr. Patow will chair all meetings of the Board and membership. He will also be responsible for the overall strategic direction of the association, and serve as the official liaison between the AIAMC and its sister organizations, such as the Association of American Medical Colleges, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education, American Medical Association, American Heart Association, Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education and others.
He also serves on the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors for the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and has been a member of the AIAMC Board of Directors since 2006.
