Media Advisory: Influenza expert available to comment on swine flu outbreak

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. - Jim Nordin, MD, head of HealthPartners Disease Surveillance System and Influenza Immunization Program is available to comment on the recent swine flu outbreak that has reached 40 cases in the U.S. and caused over 100 deaths worldwide.
Dr. Nordin can talk about swine flu symptoms and treatment. He can also give recommendations on how adolescents and adults can stay protected against the disease. A couple tips from Dr. Nordin:
- Wash your hands often
- Cover your nose and mouth when you cough or sneeze
- Avoid close contact with sick people
- Seek medical care immediately if they have symptoms of the flu and have recently traveled to areas with confirmed Swine Flu cases.
- Patients who experience symptoms and have been in contact with people who have traveled to areas with confirmed Swine Flu cases should also seek medical care immediately
