Regions Hospital cardiovascular surgeon elected president of Minnesota chapter of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons

St. Paul, Minn. - Dr. Goya Raikar, medical director of Regions Hospital Cardiovascular Surgery Department and physician with HealthPartners Medical Group, recently was elected president of the Minnesota chapter of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons.
Dr. Raikar has been a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons for 10 years and has been practicing at Regions for three years. In 2007, he performed the first heart valve repair surgery in Minnesota using robotic surgery.
The Society of Thoracic Surgeons is organized by cardiovascular and thoracic surgeons who currently practice or have practiced in Minnesota. There are about 50 cardiovascular/thoracic surgeons in Minnesota.
