Procedures
Our eye surgeons will work with you to find the right procedure to help correct your nearsightedness, farsightedness or astigmatism. Some of the laser vision correction procedures we perform include:
- Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK) An instrument called a microkeratome raises a protective flap of tissue from the surface of the cornea. An excimer laser then removes microscopic layers of the cornea over the pupil. The flap is replaced. As a result, light rays are focused more directly on the retina, resulting in clearer images.
- Laser Assisted Subepithelial Keratomileusis (LASEK) and Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRk) The thin layer of surface cells on the cornea and epithelium is removed or pushed aside. An excimer laser precisely sculpts and flattens the curve of the cornea. This allows light to focus more directly on the retina, creating clearer images.
We also perform two non-laser procedures:
- Conductive Keratoplasty (CK) A procedure used to correct minor farsightedness. A fine radio frequency probe, instead of a laser, is used to reshapethe cornea and make the necessary correction.
- Intraocular Lenses This procedure uses a lens placed inside the eye to correct severe nearsightedness. The lens may replace the eyes natural lens, or it may be used to strengthen the eyes own power.
