What are my Medicare options?
To supplement your Original Medicare coverage, you can choose between three types of plans.
Medicare Supplement Plans (also called Medigap plans) help cover deductibles and copays along with some of the expenses not covered by Original Medicare.
Medicare Advantage Plans provide care under contract to Medicare and HealthPartners offers two plan types: Medicare Managed Care plans and Medicare Private Fee-for-Service plans. Medicare Advantage Plans follow the HMO model in that they require you to use network providers and often reduce your out-of pocket costs with broad-based coverage which may include a prescription drug benefit.
Medicare Cost Plans are a type of HMO plan that contracts with Medicare. These plans pay for services outside their service areas only when they are emergency or urgently needed. When you are enrolled in a Cost plan, if you get routine services outside the plan's network without a referral, your Medicare-covered services will be paid for under Original Medicare and you would be responsible for any Original Medicare deductibles and coinsurance.
