HealthPartners offers new short-term health plan
Nov. 13, 2007
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – HealthPartners is offering a new short term medical policy for individuals or families. The plan will provide 30, 60 or 90 day policies and is effective on the day the application is received. Premiums for the short term policies start as low as $29.20 for dependent children and $37.95 for a 30-year-old adult.
"Illness and injury can happen at any time and this offers a competitively priced option for people who need stop gap coverage," said Doug Smith, senior vice president for sales and account management. Smith noted that although the short term plan is available to individuals and families who may be working part-time or are between jobs, it can be especially useful for the 9,000 HealthPartners members ages 18-25 who each year lose their parents' coverage. A 2006 study by the Commonwealth Fund found that young adults between the ages of 19 and 29 represent the largest and fastest growing segment of the population without health insurance.
The benefits in HealthPartners short term plan include:- In-network hospital services, prescription drugs, medical supplies, emergency care and more covered at 80 or 100 percent, depending on plan choice.
- Children's health care, including preventive and lab services to age 6 and immunizations to age 18, covered at 100 percent.
- GlobalFit fitness club discounts and savings on exercise equipment, classes, snowboard and ski equipment, spa and wellness services and more
HSA compatible HealthPartners product is the only short term plan in Minnesota that is compatible with a health savings account. Members with the short term plan can continue to make contributions to their accounts and they can pay any deductibles or co-pays with money from the accounts.
