Many patients and families tell us they wished they had started hospice sooner. Hospice care may begin when the patient's life expectancy is determined to be months rather than years. It is best to begin hospice care early, even if the patient is feeling good.

  • Together, the patient's attending physician and the Hospice physician determine when the individual has a life-limiting illness that is months rather than years.
  • Hospice is always a choice. Patients and families choose the comfort care focus because it is consistent with their values, wishes and goals for care. Hospice care can be stopped at any time.

Coverage for care

HealthPartners Hospice care is available to people with any kind of life-limiting illness, including cancer, advanced Alzheimer’s disease, heart disease, lung disease, kidney disease, HIV/AIDS and other life-limiting illnesses.
