Green Initiatives

At HealthPartners Pharmacy, we’re always looking for ways to decrease our impact on the environment. When you fill at one of our pharmacies, you can help do that too. Our bags and bottles are made from 100 percent recyclable material, making it easy for you to recycle them. With your support, we can continue to improve the health of our community and the environment.

How to dispose of your medicines

An estimated 250 million pounds of unused medicines are improperly disposed of each year, thereby threatening our ecosystems and overall health.* Improper disposal also increases the risk of accidental poisoning and drug abuse. Protect yourself, your family and the environment by getting rid of your medicines safely in one of the following ways:

  1. Use HealthPartners Pharmacy medicine take-back program – Bring your medicines, in their original labeled container, to one of the following HealthPartners Pharmacies for safe, free disposal. This program is available for all non-controlled substance medicines.

The pharmacy, by law, is not able to take back controlled substances including Adderall®, Ambien® (zolpidem), codeine, oxycodone, Oxycontin®, Percocet® (oxycodone-acetaminophen), Ritalin® (methylphenidate), Valium® (diazepam), Vicodin® (hydrocodone-acetaminophen), Xanax® (alprazolam) and others.

  2. Step-by-step instructions for getting rid of your unwanted medicines.
