Health Club Discounts Update
Frequent Fitness Refresher
It’s that time when people think about bringing their exercise routines back indoors — so it’s the perfect time to remind your employees to sign up for HealthPartners Frequent Fitness program, where they can save $20 a month on the club dues just for going to the gym.
It’s as easy as 1-2-3:
- Check in. Employees join a participating health club and sign up for Frequent Fitness (list of clubs available on healthpartners.com). They show their HealthPartners member ID at the front desk so the health club can track their workouts and credit their account.
- Work out. Participants must exercise at the club at least 12 days a month (beginning January 1, 2007). Only one workout per day counts. All workouts must occur in the same month; they can’t make up workouts from the previous month.
- Get paid. The employee’s health club membership account is reimbursed $20 six to eight weeks after the monthly workouts. For example, February workouts are reimbursed in April. Each eligible adult’s workout days are tracked on his or her individual membership account.
HealthPartners members 18 years or older are eligible to participate, with a limit of two workout contract incentives per household. |
Changes for the new year
Watch your mailbox in the next week for important updates to HealthPartners health club discounts programs for 2007!
HealthPartners is making three changes to our Frequent Fitness program for the coming year, and we’re adding a new way for your employees to save on health club dues nationwide. Together, these changes add choice and convenience and reward your employees financially for effectively putting healthy activity into their lives.
- Life Time Fitness joins the Frequent Fitness program beginning January 1, 2007, giving your employees more than 230 health clubs to choose from.
- Also starting January 1, 2007, the number of monthly health-club workouts required to earn the $20 dues reimbursement increases to 12 times. This applies to all participating health clubs in our program.
Health experts like the Surgeon General and the National Institutes of Health recommend adults engage in moderate-intensity activities for at least 30 minutes on five or more days of the week. Studies have shown that at this level, people can truly improve and preserve their health. HealthPartners updated reimbursement policy rewards behavior that’s consistent with what experts say we all must do to get and stay healthy.
- Effective immediately, our new GlobalFit benefit offers discounts of up to 60 percent on membership fees at health clubs around the country. GlobalFit is a great option for employees who don’t live near a Frequent Fitness club or can’t meet the 12-times-a-month requirement. Visit globalfit.com for more information.

HOW WE ADD VALUE
HealthPartners earns #1 rankings
Here’s more proof that you made the best choice in your health coverage. In the latest industry-leading eValue8 survey, HealthPartners beat the competition with #1 rankings in all nine categories of HMO measurement and first in five out of 10 PPO categories Plus, HealthPartners set the national benchmark in three categories that are critical to delivering better coverage at a better cost.
The National Business Coalition on Health sponsors the eValue8 survey of major national employers to find out who’s delivering the best results in the key criteria they use for health care purchasing decisions. All of the major local and national plans participate in eValue8 — and once again, HealthPartners is setting the bar for best results.

What does all this mean for you? It means your health plan is the leader in:
1. Creating healthy, productive workforces
- Keeping days in hospital and length of stay low and preventive service use high
- Issuing personalized health alerts to members for certain check-ups and screenings
- Offering a free online health risk assessment, giving members a benchmark measure of their health
- Helping people quit smoking
- Diagnosing and treating depression and behavioral health — #1 in the state and among the top plans in the country
2. Creating smart, satisfied consumers
- Putting transparent cost and quality data at members’ fingertips for easy head-to-head comparisons. Our online tool for viewing claims status keeps members informed about their accounts, and the personal health record (PHR) report summarizes health and benefits information.
- Delivering innovative information technology to members and providers. HealthPartners recently expanded its e-care medical record service to link its clinics, specialty center and Regions Hospital.
- Using culturally sensitive approaches in care delivery and case management that treat our members as individuals, not as numbers — leading to increased member satisfaction
- Supporting providers in disease management with robust condition registries and reports on adherence to guidelines
3. Managing prescription drugs
- We got a perfect 100 in Rx management (HMO) and scored highest in all sections
- Designing efficient programs to save money. For example, the percentage of prescriptions for the cholesterol drugs Lipitor (HealthPartners top drug by cost and volume) and Zocor (in the top 10 drugs by cost and volume) in the Half-Tablet Advantage pill-splitting program has doubled from 15 percent to 30 percent, reducing costs by $ 4 million for 2005.
- Providing members with a high-quality preferred drug list (formulary) and protect them from harmful drug interactions
4. Working with providers to deliver better care
- We received a top-ranking score of 94 for clinical measures and provider performance measures.
- Providing financial incentives for members using Best Choice providers that have met criteria for excellence in a variety of treatment areas, from cardiology to urgent care
- Earning HEDIS scores that show HealthPartners providers excel particularly in disease management (diabetes care, antidepressant medication management, advising smokers to quit), women’s health (breast cancer screening, cervical cancer screening, chlamydia screening, post-partum care) and children’s health
5. Making consumer-directed health plans (CDHPs) work
- Providing innovative products that help set the standard in this emerging arena
- Designing flexible plan options, expert financial management tools and strong care management support
- Giving today’s increasingly market-savvy health care consumers the information they need to choose the best plans for themselves and their families
