Ruth Mickelsen is a Senior Lecturer at the University of Minnesota, School of Public Health and Affiliate Faculty of the Center for Bioethics. Prior to teaching at the University, Ruth practiced health law for 20+ years in public, private and nonprofit settings. Health care has been at the center of her professional life and she enjoys working in health law and policy, public health and health care ethics. Ruth holds graduate degrees in law, public health and health care ethics.
Ruth also serves as a member of the Board of Governors of the Hazelden Betty Ford Graduate School of Addiction Studies. She is a former trustee of the Mitchell Hamline School of Law. Ruth is a Bush Leadership Fellow and was named an Alumni of Notable Achievement by the University of Minnesota in 2010.
Ruth lives in Minneapolis with her husband, William Manning. They have one adult daughter. She enjoys Minnesota’s bike trails, farmers markets, film festivals, travel, book clubs and spending time with family and friends.
