Meet Troy J. Boffeli, DPM

My goal as a foot and ankle surgeon is to improve the health and lives of my patients by resolving their pain, restoring normal ambulation, preventing amputation, and maximizing recovery after an injury. I am particularly interested in finding the best methods to treat complex foot and ankle fractures, deformities, infections, wounds, and arthritic conditions. I also enjoy teaching these methods to podiatric medical students, foot and ankle surgery residents, and practicing surgeons.

Professional leadership activities at HealthPartners allow me to focus on important aspects of healthcare, like patient safety in the operating room and patient experience in the clinic. I also enjoy teaching at a number of medical conferences around the country each year and assist with the management of the "Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery," which is the flagship journal of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

I am proud to be selected as the 2016 recipient of the Distinguished Service Award for recognition of years of service to the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. While it is nice to be recognized for volunteer activities, being involved and engaged on a national level helps to ensure that as a mid-career surgeon, I will always be able to provide a full spectrum of perspectives, including both the latest cutting-edge approaches and 20 years of experience to know what works.

I am also the author of a variety of medical publications, including a recent textbook published by Springer regarding the medical and surgical treatment of osteomyelitis of the foot and ankle. This book was written for a broad audience of physicians and surgeons who treat complicated diabetic foot infections. With the help of leading experts, this textbook represents my approach to prevention of leg amputation. I have also published more than 20 peer-reviewed manuscripts in the past six years that focus on a variety of surgical techniques, procedure refinements, and original research related to patient outcome. We have several prospective studies underway evaluating the success of both common and unique surgical approaches, including surgical treatment of leg dysfunction that causes disability after a stroke and surgical treatment of arthritis of the first toe. Other studies focus on how to minimize complications associated with bunion surgery, joint fusion, and ankle arthroscopy. Being actively involved with research and publications allows our team to share innovative approaches to patient care which is part of the HealthPartners mission.

My favorite free time activities include spending time with my wife and teenagers, paddle boarding, and biking on local off-road trails.
