Meet Deborah A. Thorp, MD

I enjoy the rich diversity of my practice and strive to give each patient the individual attention they deserve. I am privileged to be in an area of practice where I can do it all: see patients in the office, sometimes deliver their babies and perform gynecologic surgery. Even though I've been doing it for over 30 years, it's still fun! I have a special interest in minimally invasive surgery, including the use of the da Vinci robot, lesbian and transgender health care, adolescent gynecology, Somali women's health care and general obstetrics and gynecology.

More about me

It was an interesting way to use my talents to help people.

Patients can expect that I will listen to their stories with respect. I’ll try to find a medically appropriate solution to their problems that suits their current stage of life.

When I'm not at work, I enjoy hanging out at home with my family, as well as traveling, biking, kayaking, skiing and reading.

Getting exercise by biking, kayaking and skiing. I also try to keep a balance in my life between work, family and play.

Falcon Heights, MN

Steady, easygoing, busy.

Some kind of medical professional. Medicine always interested me. I wasn't sure I wanted to be a doctor, but it was certainly a possibility!

"Don't sweat the small stuff, and it's all small stuff." - My dad

Open, warm-hearted people who really want to "do the right thing" by others. The Twin Cities is very LGBTQ friendly, and that's important to me. It's also a naturally beautiful state. I can sit for hours on a lake shore and just be peaceful!

I've been in practice for 30 years and believe I have the experience to know when it's safe to "think outside of the box" to solve medical problems. I helped Fartun Weli found and establish Isuroon. But the most important reward has been the love and respect of my patients and colleagues. I'm also the recipient of the following professional awards: • Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal Diversity Award, 2019 • OutFront MN Innovator Award, 2018 • ACOG Community Service Award, 2016 • Park Nicollet Community Service Award, 2003 and 2011 • Park Nicollet Clinic Educator of the Year • Top Docs and Patient's Choice Awards • Residency Teaching Award • U of M OB-GYN Residency Education Award

I am currently a member of the following professional organizations: • American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists • World Professional Association for Transgender Health • Gay and Lesbian Medical Association • Minnesota Medical Association and Twin Cities Medical Society • American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopy I also participated in the development of Somali educational materials in cooperation with Wellshare International.
