Meet Georgia L. Banks, MSW, LICSW
I am a passionate and committed licensed independent clinical social worker who has been working in the Mental Health and Social Work field for over 14 years. For the past 5 years I have focused my practice on the treatment of eating disorders. My areas of interest include working with adolescents and young adults and providing evidence based treatments for those suffering with Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, and Other (Un)Specified Eating Disorders.
My counseling style is warm, compassionate, and interactive. I am sensitive to others, respectful, and empathic. My treatment approach is focused on providing evidence-based therapies which research has shown to be very effective. These are cognitive behaviorally based in theory and are engaging, helpful, and well-liked by clients. I tailor the treatment to best suit my clients' needs. My most utilized therapeutic models are Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Cognitive Behavior Therapy- Enhanced for Eating Disorders (CBT-E), Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), the Unified Protocol for Emotional Disorders (UP), and Mindfulness techniques. I have a background in psychodynamic theory as well and continue to find this useful in better understanding my clients and forming effective therapeutic relationships.
While therapy can be enjoyable and rewarding, it is also a lot of work. If you are ready to embark on this journey, I would be honored to help you find joy, peace, and balance in your life.
I grew up outside of Duluth MN and after high school I spent about a decade in various cities on the East Coast. I met my husband while out East and convinced him to move back to the Midwest with me where we have been happily living since 2008. I enjoy spending time with family and friends and travelling.
