Regions Hospital receives seventh consecutive "Grade A" in patient safety

May 11, 2015

ST. PAUL, Minn. – May 11, 2015 – Regions earned the highest mark for patient safety by The Leapfrog Group, an independent industry watchdog. It’s the seventh straight reporting period in which Regions has received the top mark.

“Patients come to a hospital trusting they are in a safe place. At Regions Hosptial, providing high-quality, safe care is our top priority. This recognition is validation that our focus on patient safety is making a difference,” said Regions Hospital President and CEO Megan Remark.

Leapfrog assigns A, B, C, D and F grades to hospitals based on a hospital’s ability to prevent errors, injuries and infections. More than 2,500 hospitals were assigned scores with about 31 percent receiving an “A” grade this spring.

Regions was one of 13 Minnesota hospitals to earn an “A” grade and one of only 182 hospitals in the nation to achieve straight “A’s” since the inception of the Hospital Safety Score in June of 2012. About the Hospital Safety Score

The Hospital Safety Score uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to produce a single A, B, C, D or F score representing a hospital’s overall capacity to keep patients safe from preventable harm. The Score is free to the public and designed to give consumers information they can use to protect themselves and their families when facing a hospital stay.
