HealthPartners purchases land for new Como Clinic

Groundbreaking expected in 2018

July 20, 2016

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — HealthPartners is pleased to announce that it has signed the final agreement to purchase land from Luther Seminary. The land will be used for a new HealthPartners Como Clinic.

The new building will be across the street from the current clinic and will be roughly the same size. Construction will take about 18 months and HealthPartners will work with the neighborhood as the project progresses. The new facility will offer the same services which include primary, specialty, dental, eye and urgent care and pharmacy. Patients will continue to get care at the current site until the new clinic opens.

Como Clinic holds a special place in HealthPartners history, and this investment will ensure that we can continue to serve our community for decades to come, said Beth Averbeck, MD, HealthPartners Senior Medical Director for Primary Care.

Como Clinic opened in 1957 as the first clinic for what was then Group Health. It was a new model that provided both medical care and health care financing. One of the first prepaid consumer governed health plans in the nation, it was a pioneering model that focused on prevention and maintaining health. In 1992, Group Health merged with MedCenters to become HealthPartners. Today it is the largest non-profit, consumer-governed health care organization in the nation.
