October 9, 2015

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — A documentary co-produced by HealthPartners and Twin Cities Public Television (tpt2) has been recognized with a 2015 Upper Midwest Regional Emmy Award. The program, "Living Beyond Cancer: A Celebration," earned the top honor in the Special Event Coverage (other than News or Sports) category.

"We're fortunate to have a partner like Twin Cities Public Television to tell the stories of individuals and families who inspire us all as they live with cancer," says Mary Brainerd, president and chief executive officer for HealthPartners. "Through those stories, we're increasing awareness, creating conversation and connecting through our shared values and humanity."

In the United States, there are nearly 14.5 million Americans alive today with a history of cancer, according to the American Cancer Society. The documentary profiles the stories of five Minnesotans and their common passion to live beyond cancer with courage, perseverance and optimism. It also highlights the shift in attitudes toward a cancer diagnosis and features insights into how medical experts are approaching cancer treatment and research.

The Upper Midwest Emmy Awards represents television excellence in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and parts of Nebraska and Wisconsin. Nominations are based on several criteria, including exceptional television work, past and present; providing professional development and outreach; and nurturing the next generation of television professionals.

The program is available online here.
