Park Nicollet Methodist, Regions, Lakeview and Hudson hospitals recognized as leaders in LGBT healthcare equality

Four HealthPartners hospitals recognized as leaders in LGBT healthcare equality by Human Rights Campaign Foundation

October 15, 2014

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Oct. 15, 2014 – The national human rights organization Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation is recognizing four HealthPartners hospitals – Park Nicollet Methodist, Regions, Lakeview and Hudson -- for their commitment to providing equitable, inclusive care for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender patients and employees.

The hospitals were named “Leaders in LGBT Healthcare Equality” in the Healthcare Equality Index 2014 report, a unique annual survey conducted by the HRC, the educational arm of the country’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) organization, that encourages equal care for LGBT Americans, and recognizes healthcare institutions doing the best work.

All four hospitals earned the recognition for meeting key criteria for equitable care, including non-discrimination and training criteria for LGBT patients and employees, a guarantee of equal visitation for same-sex partners and parents, and LGBT health education for key staff members. This achievement is a tremendous honor, as it speaks to HealthPartners ongoing commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Methodist has been recognized by the HRC as a LGBT healthcare equality leader since 2009, and has one of the state’s largest transgender health services program in the state serving approximately 800 patients. Regions Hospital was also included in the 2013 Healthcare Equality Index, while Lakeview and Hudson are being recognized for the very first time.

426 facilities that participated in the Healthcare Equity Index were named a “2014 Leader in LGBT Healthcare Equality.” To read the Healthcare Equality Index 2014, visit hrc.org/hei.
