HealthPartners is the official medical provider for the U.S. Figure Skating Championships

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – Xcel Energy Center today announced that HealthPartners will be the official medical provider of the 2016 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Physicians, physical therapists and athletic trainers from HealthPartners Regions Hospital and TRIA Orthopaedics will treat any injuries or illnesses among the competing athletes. HealthPartners and Regions Hospital also served as the official medical provider for the event in 2008.

"It's an honor that HealthPartners was selected to provide care for these world-class athletes," said Dr. Todd Johnson, HealthPartners Orthopaedic Physician and Local Medical Director for Championship. "We hope this event will promote health in our community by bringing out the athlete in all of us." Regions Hospital (Regions) and TRIA Orthopaedic Center (TRIA) are also the preferred hospital and exclusive orthopaedic provider for the Minnesota Wild.

The U.S. Championships serve as the final qualifying events to make the U.S. World Figure Skating Team and the U.S. Olympic Team. The annual event attracts more than 1,600 athletes, coaches and officials, plus an anticipated 110,000 fans to the host community.

The championships, held since 1914, is the nation's most prestigious figure skating event. Past winners include Michelle Kwan, Kristi Yamaguchi and Scott Hamilton. The city of Saint Paul also hosted the 2008 U.S. Championships. Champions included 2010 Olympians Mirai Nagasu, Evan Lysacek, and Tanith Belbin and Ben Agosto.
