City Council approves new HealthPartners Lakeview Hospital
Groundbreaking for new hospital scheduled for July
STILLWATER, Minn. – The Stillwater City Council on Tuesday approved final designs and plans for a new HealthPartners Lakeview Hospital. The council action follows months of collaboration with community members and city leaders, making way for a groundbreaking in July. The Lakeview design team presented the plan for a six-story campus that will span 400,000 square feet, including 97 patient beds, and will be about two times the size of the current campus. The site allows for future expansion of existing services and new specialty care options at a campus with the latest technology and with an environmentally-conscious approach to sustainability.
“This investment in our community is about two very important things, meeting the needs of the St. Croix Valley and surrounding areas and providing more care options close to home,” explains Brandi Lunneborg, president of Lakeview Hospital. “We’ve been providing excellent care in a welcoming environment for 140 years. We look forward to carrying on that tradition as we grow with the community we serve.”
The new campus is another example of HealthPartners' commitment to making care simpler and affordable in the communities it serves. The new campus will feature a family birth center, specialty centers for heart and cancer care, a TRIA Orthopedics Clinic, urgent care services and enhanced critical care and emergency capabilities.
“Lakeview is more than a hospital,” Lunneborg added. “We are part of the community and it’s important for us to integrate ourselves with neighbors, patients and visitors. Whether it’s an event that promotes community health or the 1.5 miles of walking trails that connect to existing trail systems, we are committed to building something all of us can be proud of.”
The hospital campus is designed to help patients feel comfortable, promoting a healthy and healing environment, including incorporating surrounding nature into the experience. The campus has been thoughtfully placed among the existing wetlands and will feature a design that offers patients a view of the surrounding landscape. It also will enhance efficiency for care teams and improve room design and wayfinding for patients and visitors.
Land for the new hospital site, located at the northeast corner of Manning Avenue and Highway 36, was purchased in 2017. Paused at the beginning of the pandemic, design planning resumed in 2022, and architects were selected in late 2023. The last 18 months focused on design creation and community engagement.
