HealthPartners Medicare Advantage Plan to include Allina Health starting 2020

Expanded HealthPartners Medicare Advantage care network will offer current and future members more options for high-quality, affordable care in Minnesota

August 6, 2019

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Less than one year after a federal law eliminated Medicare Cost plans in most Minnesota counties and prompted more than 300,000 people to switch their insurance, HealthPartners announced that Allina Health will be included in all HealthPartners Medicare Advantage plans, beginning January 1, 2020.

“By adding Allina to our Medicare Advantage network, we’re expanding access to clinicians and hospitals to further meet our member’s needs, while providing members with the high-performing customer experience that HealthPartners is known for,” said Jim Eppel, HealthPartners executive vice president and chief administrative officer.

The partnership will allow both organizations to continue caring for members and patients in areas where HealthPartners and Allina collaborate closely. In addition, for those existing HealthPartners members who receive care at Allina Health, the expanded network will make their shopping experience simpler as they approach age 65 and begin shopping for Medicare coverage.

HealthPartners offers both Medicare Advantage and Medicare Supplement plans. Details of the 2020 plans will be available on Oct. 1, 2019. Annual Election Period – the time when people can pick or switch Medicare insurance plans that they want to use for the coming year – begins Oct. 15, 2019.
