New clinic in Lake Elmo is HealthPartners largest for behavioral health in East Metro

May 29, 2018

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – HealthPartners today opened a new behavioral health clinic in Lake Elmo. The HealthPartners Regions Behavioral Health clinic was previously located in Woodbury. The new clinic in Lake Elmo is double in size and offers services from 16 additional clinicians. A key highlight is family and child behavioral health care where demand is especially great.

The new clinic at 8550 Hudson Blvd. caps a significant expansion in HealthPartners mental health services since December. Other new facilities and services include:

  • The Park Nicollet Behavioral Health Clinic in Burnsville
  • The HealthPartners Regions Behavioral Health clinic in Arden Hills
  • Afton Place, a short-term residential treatment program for mental health in Maplewood
  • Expanded services from Melrose Center at the behavioral health clinics in Burnsville and Lake Elmo
  • New developmental pediatric services at HealthPartners clinic in Maplewood

Over the past two years HealthPartners has increased the number of mental health clinicians in its system by nearly 50 percent. New clinicians include two psychiatrists who provide telepsychiatry at HealthPartners Riverside, West and Inver Grove Heights clinics.

In addition to services at behavioral health clinics, therapists also provide care for mental health at 18 primary care clinics at HealthPartners, Park Nicollet and Stillwater Medical Group.

Because demand is so high for mental health services in Minnesota and the nation, appointments at the behavioral health clinics are open only for patients who get care from a clinic within HealthPartners care system.

“While our community still has more work to do, this expansion is a big step forward in making it easier for patients with a mental illness to get the care they need,” said Josh Zimmerman, MD, senior medical director for behavioral health. The investments are projected to increase access to mental health care for patients in HealthPartners system by 37 percent to an estimated 24,000 patients this year.
