Education improves health and well-being
Our education teams serve a variety of communities. Together, we create a rich learning environment at HealthPartners.
Educators, writers, simulation experts, dietitians, nurses and librarians work with:
- Patients and the community
- HealthPartners employees
- New and experienced health professionals
Our focus areas include:
We improve patient safety by providing clinical simulation to health care professionals. In 2011, we were the first program in Minnesota and nearby states accredited by the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Simulation helps clinicians develop skills and reasoning and promotes teamwork and communication.
Continuing medical education
We offer lectures, conferences, webinars and regular series to help clinicians develop their knowledge and skills. We also provide materials for care and clinical improvement projects. We are nationally accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), and have received their highest ranking, Accreditation with Commendation. Accreditation in the ACCME System seeks to assure the medical community and the public that we deliver education that is relevant to clinicians’ needs, evidence-based, evaluated for its effectiveness, and independent of commercial influence.
Graduate and undergraduate clinical education
Each year, we train more than 500 medical residents and fellows, 830 medical students and 450 advanced practice students. Recently, we worked with HealthPartners leaders to design a health professions education system that aligns with HealthPartners’ workforce needs and mission. It will help HealthPartners increase alignment, adapt to changing health care demands and accelerate best practices.
Maintenance of Certification
HealthPartners Maintenance of Certification Portfolio Program supports doctors’ and physician assistants’ involvement in quality improvement while meeting Maintenance of Certification (MOC) requirements in multiple American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). View participating ABMS member boards.
Medical and patient libraries
Professional medical librarians staff our three libraries: Arneson Methodist Library, Medical Library at Regions Hospital and our research library. They provide searches and evidence-based information to employees and partners. Patients, members and the public can access services through Park Nicollet Health Library at 952-993-5451.
We work with care teams across HealthPartners to create education resources for patients and members to improve their care, experience and costs. Nutrition education is offered at 13 Park Nicollet clinics. We support healthy eating programs such as the Connecting the Dots child obesity task force, child and adult weight management programs, the yumPower school challenge and Camp 5210.
Classes and support groups are offered to educate, encourage and empower patients. Class topics range from nutrition to childbirth to living with chronic illness. View classes.
Quality improvement education
We support the delivery of quality improvement leadership cohort programs. This includes Improve Well and Quality Academy.
Improving health literacy
According to the U.S. Department of Education, nearly 9 of 10 Americans have trouble understanding routine health information. Our patient education team knows the importance of providing materials that all patients can understand. Read “Health Literacy Guidelines at HealthPartners: An Evidence-Based Strategy” to learn about its approach.
