Dr. Pat Courneya
About me

I’ve been lucky throughout my long career to have a variety of roles in some outstanding health care organizations, like HealthPartners, where I am now Chief Health Plan Medical Officer, or Kaiser Permanente, where I spent an exciting 6 years leading national quality initiatives, with special focus on mental health, innovations in measurement, medical education and telehealth, among other things.

But it’s my 24 years of clinical practice in family medicine that have really shaped my deep understanding of the true challenges and opportunities in health care as it affects people with a wide variety of personal stories and from all walks of life.  I strive to carry those stories with me in everything I do.

That’s why I’m working with organizations like the National Committee for Quality Assurance to help build the next phase of health care quality measurement. And my work with the National Alliance on Mental Illness and the Coalition to Transform Advance Care keeps me connected to the priorities of patients and their families.  We need to measure what matters to patients, like how quickly, effectively and affordably our services can help them get on with their lives.  New, high-value digital services will play a big part in delivering effective, affordable care in the very near future and to anyone who might benefit.  I’m excited to help lead these innovations.
