Chelation therapy is generally covered when recommended by a plan physician for the following indications.
Indications that are covered
- Biliary cirrhosis
- Cooley's anemia (thalassemia major)
- Heavy metal poisoning (arsenic, cadmium, copper, gold, iron, lead, mercury)
- Wilson's disease
Indications that are not covered
For the treatment of cardiovascular disease or cerebral vascular disease.
Chelation therapy clears heavy metals, which can cause disease, from the blood.
