When Kelly Bort was release from Methodist Hospital after being hospitalized for COVID-19, she immediately wanted to find a way to give back.

“When I was diagnosed with COVID-19, I developed pneumonia in both lungs so needed to be hospitalized for five days,” she recalled. “I kept hearing on the news that there was a shortage of personal protective equipment masks for health care workers, and here I am, one of the patients they are trying to help but need protection from so they can help others.”

Even with everything going on, Kelly kept noticing how wonderful the nurses were and how great her care was. She wanted to care for them as much as they cared for her.

After being released, she contacted her son in Chicago who has manufacturer partners around the world who could provide masks. They started by buying 1,000, and ended up buying his whole inventory and are now donating to Park Nicollet Foundation for Methodist Hospital and other hospitals across the country.

With a constant smile on her face, she is looking on the bright side of helping others.

“I’m just glad to help in a small way. This is something I can do to make a difference.”
