HealthPartners today announced the election of Paul Williams as chair of its board of directors, Laura Liu as vice chair, and Morris Goodwin as Treasurer. Williams, Liu and Goodwin will serve in these roles through 2026.

Williams is the recently retired president and CEO of Project for Pride in Living, Inc. (PPL), one of Minnesota’s premier multi-service community development organizations. PPL builds and manages affordable housing and provides job training skills for lower-income workers. Prior to joining PPL, Williams served as deputy mayor of St. Paul. He was first elected to the HealthPartners board in 2021.

Liu is a business consultant and serves on several other boards. She also served as chief operating officer at College Possible, a national non-profit that supports low-income students through college admission and graduation. Liu was first elected to the HealthPartners board in 2023.

Goodwin is the former managing director of Forge North, a startup ecosystem platform. He's currently the executive financial advisor of the Greater MSP Regional Economic Partnership and the managing principal of his own financial consulting firm. Goodwin was first elected to the HealthPartners board in 2017.

Welcoming new and recently re-elected board members

HealthPartners has been consumer governed by elected board members since the organization was founded in 1957. The board of directors is made up of plan members who have HealthPartners insurance, patients who use the care system’s clinics and hospitals, four physicians and the HealthPartners CEO. Board members are elected to three-year terms and provide insights to drive innovation and improvement focused on making health care and coverage simple and affordable.

New board members appointed to fill vacancies:

  • Sherri Broderius is an education consultant, working with school district leaders in southern Minnesota. She’s also a former classroom educator, high school principal and superintendent. In the schools Sherri had led, one was honored with National Blue Ribbon status for student achievement.
  • Mary Grove is managing partner of Bread and Butter Ventures where she leads digital health and enterprise SaaS investing. She brings two decades of leadership experience in technology, early stage investing and startup ecosystem growth.

Incumbents re-elected to the HealthPartners board:

  • David Lagerstrom, first elected in 2022, is former president and CEO of TURCK, Inc. North America, a global manufacturer of industrial sensors, connectivity products and networking devices.
  • Ruby Lee, first elected in 2022, is president and CEO of Comunidades Latinas Unidas En Servicio (CLUES). As Minnesota’s largest Latino-led nonprofit, CLUES works to advance health and wellness, economic prosperity and cultural engagement.
