Research highlights

Clinic-based diabetes quality improvement; surveillance of prediabetes, diabetes, and gestational diabetes; translation of diabetes lifestyle intervention programs into practice; development of Web-based dietary assessment tool.

Research interests/expertise

Chronic disease epidemiology, surveillance, and research, with a special interest in diabetes, diabetes prevention, and related conditions; patient-direct Internet and phone strategies to gather information and activate behavior change, especially addressing dietary and physical activity behaviors.

Current projects

  • Studying the influence of incentives on Medicaid beneficiary enrollment, participation, and weight loss in the Diabetes Prevention Lifestyle program
  • Constructing an electronic medical record (EMR)-based diabetes registry for surveillance, epidemiologic, and comparative effectiveness studies
  • Examining the impact of mental illness on blood pressure control in adults with hypertension
  • Developing EMR-based cardiovascular disease and diabetes decision support tools for providers and patients
  • Developing and validating a Web-based dietary assessment instrument (dissertation topic)
