I was the supervisor of the Regions Hospital Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) program from 2005 to 2022 and served as program educator for SANE on a part-time basis after that. I was an ER nurse for more than 40 years and began working as a SANE nurse in 2002. I’m passionate about my work with patients who have experienced sexual assault and other interpersonal trauma, as well as about supporting the nurses who do this work. I’m constantly humbled by the trust patients place in me and the other SANEs when they come for care at such a vulnerable time in their lives. For me, it is an honor and a privilege to help these patients get started on the road to healing.
