On June 2, the Minnesota Hospital Association handed out its annual awards. And we’re proud to say that Regions Hospital and Methodist Hospital were very well-represented!
Best Minnesota Hospital Workplace
Regions was the winner of this award among the state’s large hospitals. It highlights Regions’ commitment to employee health and well-being. The hospital has an on-site fitness center. Its remodeled cafeteria offers many healthy food choices. And it is home to the largest space in Minnesota for hospital employees to relax, restore and renew. This is called the Center for Employee Resilience.
Community Benefit Award
This year’s award honored the Lee and Penny Anderson HeroCare for Veterans program at Regions. The program helps veterans and military members who may not qualify for State or Federal veteran services. A specialist assists them and their families by connecting them with financial, housing and employment help.
LifeSource Hospital Partner Award
Regions had the most organ and tissue donations of any hospital in Minnesota in 2016. There were 24 organ donations and 45 tissue donations.
Trustee of the Year
Regions Board member Jim McDonough was honored for being a voice for the East Metro’s underserved. He also serves on the Ramsey County Board. In particular, McDonough has done a lot to help the mental health patient population. He has been key to making connections between Regions Hospital, Ramsey County and the community.
Good Catch for Patient Safety Award
This award went to one of our colleagues at Methodist Hospital. Her name is Sonam Serpolamatsang. Sonam works in housekeeping. She is the first employee in the state with this job to win the award. While in a room, Sonam noticed there was blood on the pillow of a patient who had returned from dialysis. She quickly brought it to the attention of the patient’s nurse. That helped prevent the situation from becoming more serious.
