Bug bites are a normal part of life, but when you or your child has one that looks worse than usual or hurts more than you’d expect, it’s a good idea to get help from an expert.
With an e-visit, help is just a few clicks away. Simply answer a few questions and you’ll have a personalized treatment plan and be on the way to relief, all in as little as two hours.
If your child is younger than 5 years old and has a concerning bug bite or sting, make a primary care appointment.
Most bug bites and stings can be treated with an e-visit, but sometimes they need immediate, in-person care. Call 911 or head to the nearest emergency room if you have any of these serious symptoms: difficulty breathing, swelling of the lips or throat, widespread hives, dizziness, severe muscle cramps, abdominal pain or chest pain.
If a bug bite or sting is taking your day off course, we can help. With an e-visit, you can get fast relief from many common bug bites and stings.
Bed bug bites typically appear as small, itchy red bumps, often in clusters or lines. The itching can be intense, but bed bug bites themselves are not usually painful. Treatment for bed bug bites typically includes topical creams to reduce itching, antihistamines and self-care.
Bites from deer flies and horse flies can be especially painful. They often leave red, swollen welts that can itch and burn for several days if not treated. Treatment plans for these bites often include self-care, such as cold compresses, and using anti-itch creams or antihistamines to ease the pain and itching.
Flea bites look like clusters of small, itchy red bumps – often on the lower legs or ankles. The itching can be intense, but scratching can make the irritation worse. Treatment plans for flea bites may include self-care tips, anti-itch creams and antihistamines.
Mosquito bites usually cause small, itchy, raised bumps that appear shortly after the bite. Some people develop larger welts or delayed swelling. Mosquito bite treatment plans typically include self-care tips, anti-itch creams and oral antihistamines.
Most spider bites cause mild redness, swelling and tenderness similar to other insect bites. Some people may also develop a small blister or an itchy bump. Treatment for spider bites often includes a combination of pain relievers, anti-itch products and simple home remedies to help manage discomfort.
Bites from brown recluse and black widow spiders can cause serious symptoms. While it’s unlikely that you’ll be bitten by one of these spiders, go to the nearest emergency room if you’ve been bitten and are experiencing any of these serious symptoms:
- Trouble breathing, wheezing or throat tightness
- Swelling of the lips, tongue or face
- A severe or rapidly spreading rash or hives
- Muscle cramps, abdominal pain or chest pain
- Confusion, fever, dizziness or fainting
- A wound that is turning dark, blistering or breaking down
- Signs of an infection, such as pus or spreading redness at the site of the wound
A wasp, hornet or bee sting often causes sharp, immediate pain followed by redness, warmth and swelling around the sting site. Some people develop a larger local reaction with significant swelling over the next day. Treatment for stings includes washing the area, applying a cold compress, and using antihistamines or hydrocortisone cream to ease itching and swelling.
When you’re dealing with a painful bug bite or sting, getting treatment can help you feel better, faster. E-visits make it easy to get fast, affordable treatment for bug bites and insect stings online.
To start an e-visit, sign into your online account or create a new account. We’ll guide you through questions about symptoms, medications, allergies and insurance. We’ll also explain how to easily upload photos to support your diagnosis. From start to finish, submitting an e-visit usually takes about 10 minutes.
Once you submit your e-visit, one of our experienced nurse practitioners reviews your answers, determines a diagnosis and creates a treatment plan. As soon as they’re done, you’ll get an email letting you know it’s ready. We typically deliver treatment plans in as little as two hours.
We review e-visits 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends and holidays. If you submit an e-visit outside these hours, your treatment plan will arrive the following morning.
E-visits are usually covered by insurance. Depending on your plan, the cost may be as low as $0 with insurance. Without insurance, the cost can be up to $89, but never more. Whether you use insurance or not, there are never any hidden fees or extra costs.
We’re able to treat many bug bites and stings with an e-visit. But if we can’t treat you, we’ll connect you with another care option, and you won’t be charged for the e‑visit.
