Day treatment

Partial hospitalization program (PHP) for eating disorders in the Twin Cities

The partial hospitalization program (also called day program) at Melrose Center provides support and intensive treatment for adults and adolescents recovering from eating disorders. We’ll help you restore or maintain weight, learn new skills and mend your relationship with food.

How to begin partial hospitalization eating disorder treatment

Beginning eating disorder treatment starts by calling to schedule an initial assessment at Melrose Center. During the initial assessment, one of our experts will talk with you about you or your loved one’s symptoms and concerns. Together, we’ll decide which type of treatment is the best fit, and we’ll be here to answer your questions at every step of the way.

What to expect from the partial hospitalization eating disorder program (PHP) at Melrose Center

Our partial hospitalization program is the most intensive outpatient eating disorder treatment we offer. You’ll work with experts at Melrose Center five full days a week to develop balanced eating habits and work to improve your relationship with food. Our PHP gives you the support you need to heal and the opportunity to practice the skills you learn on evenings and weekends.

As part of our PHP for eating disorders, you can expect:

  • Eight hours of programming daily, Monday through Friday
  • Four to six-week program that can be extended as needed
  • Therapeutic and supported eating experiences for two meals and two snacks each day
  • One-on-one therapy sessions and sessions with a registered dietitian twice weekly for adult patients
  • One family therapy session and one individual therapy session weekly for adolescent patients
  • Weekly sessions with a registered dietitian for families of adolescent patients
  • Weekly primary care visits
  • Visits with a psychiatrist, occupational therapist or physical therapist when needed
  • Staff-led educational experiences such as ordering meals, cooking, grocery shopping and clothes shopping support
  • Group programming that integrates psychotherapy, skills development, nutrition education, occupational therapy and mind-body practices to support recovery

In addition to therapeutic programming, we provide individualized academic support to our adolescent patients. A licensed teacher provides dedicated tutoring for adolescents 90 minutes each programming day, helping them stay on track academically and earn school credits while focusing on recovery.
