  • HealthPartners is a leader in electronic medical records and online patient care
  • Began implementing early versions of electronic medical records in 1997, and by 2004 all HealthPartners Clinics were using electronic medical records
  • Also in 2004, Park Nicollet became the first health system in the Twin Cities to have a fully integrated electronic medical record across hospital, clinic and home health care
  • More than 337,000 HealthPartners patients have signed up for Online Patient Services
  • Since HealthPartners automated releasing test results to patients in 2007, we have released more than 18 million results online
  • myHealthPartners mobile app, launched in 2012, has been downloaded by more than 20,000 people
  • Members have used the mobile app more than 22,000 times to view financial information related to their health care spending, including balances in FSA, HSA and health reimbursement accounts, deductibles and out of-of-pocket maximums

HealthPartners Institute

The HealthPartners Institute is one of the largest medical research and education centers in the Midwest. It helps transform health care in our region and across the nation. The Institute is part of HealthPartners integrated care system. It uses research and education to advance the Triple Aim of improving health, experience and affordability for our members, patients and the community.


  • Education areas include clinical quality education, clinical simulation, continuing medical education, graduate and undergraduate clinical education experiences, International Diabetes Center patient services and professional training/consulting, Maintenance of Certification, medical and patient libraries, nutrition visits, patient education and workforce modeling
  • More than 575 residents and fellows and more than 800 medical students and advanced practice clinician students train each year
  • Around 25,000 health care professionals participate in continuing medical education activities each year
  • About 15,000 patients take part in patient and diabetes education classes and nutrition visits annually
  • Roughly 9,500 health professionals participate in clinical simulation programs

  • The Institute conducts survey-based, population health, behavioral intervention and clinical and basic sciences research with collaborators within HealthPartners medical and dental groups and around the world. The results of our work inform public policy and national clinical guidelines
  • Research is led by multidisciplinary teams of PhD- and MD-level investigators trained in statistics, economics, epidemiology, medical specialties and other fields
  • More than 400 research projects are ongoing at any one time
  • The Research Subjects Protection Program reviews about 120 applications to conduct research at HealthPartners each year. HealthPartners’ program is accredited by the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs
  • Each year, researchers publish about 300 articles, books and book chapters and give 300 paper and poster presentations at national and international conferences

TRIA Orthopaedic Center

  • Opened in 2005 as the first comprehensive orthopaedic care center in the Twin Cities offering a variety of services at one location, including physical therapy, hand therapy, surgery, X-ray and MRI
