How do we cultivate a diverse and inclusive culture?

Our leaders and the Diversity and Inclusion team and steering council work together to make changes across our organization. Our work includes engaging employees and collaborating with our patients and members. Collectively, we can be creative and encourage innovative solutions to provide equitable care to those we serve.

Why…To Improve Health and Well-Being of Communities

The demographics of our community are changing. In fact, by 2056 (U.S. Census Bureau), Minnesota and Wisconsin will be a minority majority state.

Our demographics show the educational achievement gap is increasing. This has implications on who will receive care and coverage. We must focus on helping our communities maintain good health and education to build a thriving economy and maintain healthy lives.

We’re committed to eliminating these gaps and providing culturally relevant care and service to improve quality of life and to attract future customers.

  • HealthPartners’ employers: Regions Hospital, Methodist Hospital, Lakeview Hospital and Hudson Hospital are recipients of the 2014 Human Equality Index. This certification is provided to healthcare facilities that meet the Core Four criteria for LGBT patient-centered care.
  • HealthPartners was given the 2009 Community Pride Award for its innovative ideas and approaches to health that affect the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community with respect to patient care, workplace initiatives and community outreach.

HealthPartners sponsors Business Engagement Networks to support our organization’s mission, vision and values. Members of the Networks build support systems focused on our patients, members and families that foster:

  • Diversity
  • Respect
  • Inclusion
  • Cultural humility

Internally, the focus of the Networks is on bringing employees together from different parts of the organization. The goal is to support and encourage:

  • Involvement in organizational decision making
  • Employee engagement and development
  • Community outreach
  • Networking

Business Engagement Networks are volunteer-based and offer development for colleagues who get involved. The “Networks” are part of HealthPartners Diversity and Inclusion strategy and team, helping to build a diverse workforce and cultivate an inclusive work environment. Our first network, the Cross-Cultural Leadership Network, hosted its first event in June 2014. We’re excited to add additional groups in 2016.

HealthPartners works in partnership with patients, members, families and our communities. We know that healthy options and lifestyles are an important part of our daily lives. The decisions we make every day have an impact on our health. It’s much more likely we will make healthy choices when we have the education and resources to make those choices. My mentor encouraged me to keep networking and making connections. When I joined the program, I didn’t know anything about either. By the end, my professional network expanded and I learned how important it is to make connections.
