You must be 15 years of age or older to apply. Some opportunities have older age requirements. People of all backgrounds and interests are welcome. Shift times and lengths vary depending on your preferences and availability. Most shifts are two to four hours a week. Weekday shifts are the most common, but some weekday evenings and weekend shifts are available.
You can choose from two programs – both offer a range of opportunities across the Twin Cities.
- Year-round program – Minimum of six months of 100 hours
- Summer program – 10 to 12 weeks during the summer
The application process for our year-round and summer programs is the same.
After you submit your volunteer application, there are still a few more steps before you can volunteer. It generally takes three to four weeks to complete the process.
We’ll review your application, and contact you via email to schedule an interview. During the interview, you’ll tell us about yourself, your interests and your availability. This helps us find the best opportunities to match your talents.
You’ll need to bring these documents to your interview:
Upon acceptance into the program after your interview, you’ll need to complete an online orientation. You’ll also need to complete a State of Minnesota background check.
You’ll complete onsite training with a team member in the department where you’re volunteering.
