TRIA Rink, the official practice facility of the Minnesota Wild and Minnesota Frost, opened its doors in February 2018 on the top floor of the Treasure Island Center. Located just a few blocks from Grand Casino Arena, the rooftop rink serves as a special place for the Minnesota hockey community.

TRIA and the Wild have been partnering ever since their inaugural season in 2000. TRIA orthopedic surgeons, Dr. Joel Boyd and Dr. Brad Nelson, serve as the official team physicians. The two of them travel with the team to practices and games, and help treat players to get them back on the ice.

TRIA is also the official medical provider for the Minnesota Frost of the Professional Women's Hockey League. The Frost's medical team is made up of athletic trainers, physicians, a clinical sports neuropsychologist and a physical therapist who provide comprehensive care for the athletes. This all-women team from TRIA includes Christina Neville, ATC, Dr. Heather Bergeson, Dr. Caitlin Chambers, Dr. Aimee Custer, Briana Molitor, DPT and Amy Hamilton, consulting ATC. Katie Homan, ATC, of the Minnesota Frost and USA Hockey, is the co-team athletic trainer. Each of these women bring an extensive background and experience working in the highest levels of hockey.

The rink offers an opportunity for the State of Hockey to come together and skate on the same ice as their hometown hockey heroes. The rink is used for youth hockey teams and events, open skates and partnerships with local organizations. For example, DinoMights, a St. Paul youth hockey program, uses TRIA Rink to reach at-risk children in the community. Through the game of hockey, DinoMights helps Twin Cities youth develop important life skills. Hamline University’s men’s and women’s hockey teams use the rink for their home ice as well.

TRIA also opened a new state-of-the-art orthopedic clinic in the lower level of the building. “It’s great that we can offer orthopedic care and physical therapy in downtown St. Paul,” says TRIA primary care sports medicine physician, Dr. Steven Greer. “We are building some wonderful relationships with the local businesses, schools and club sports.”
