Fall Prevention and Balance Program

Helping seniors with fall prevention and balance

Staying safe while being active is important at any age. But it’s even more vital when you’re in your later years. Our strength and mobility steadily decline over time, increasing our risk of injury. This can make day-to-day activities like climbing stairs or navigating icy sidewalks risky.

Falls are all too common. That’s why TRIA has comprehensive injury prevention services to help prevent falls and reduce the fear of falling. Our team of leading orthopedic experts can help you improve balance through exercise and training. The goal is to encourage activity, independence and ongoing education to stay strong and injury-free as you age.

How our Fall Prevention and Balance Program works

The Fall Prevention and Balance Program is designed for adults over 65 years old. It’s a best fit for seniors who are at risk of falling due to weakness or unsteadiness while moving around. Someone of any age who just had a recent joint replacement surgery could also benefit from the program.

A physical therapist will work with you on strength training, balance training and walking exercises throughout the program. These exercises are designed to improve endurance, flexibility and overall muscle strength, which can help prevent falls. A session with one of our physical therapists typically lasts an hour.

What you can expect from your first visit

The first visit is an evaluation. Our physical therapists will identify any fall or injury risk factors by conducting a physical examination that measures strength, motion and balance. From there, our team will work with you to determine what exercises might be helpful.
