Pain in your knees, back or neck can make anything from mountain bike racing to a casual weekend ride difficult. With specialized physical therapy, you can get back to cycling comfortably and efficiently at even your highest levels of performance.
Our team of physical therapists and cycling experts specialize in knowing the body mechanics needed to maintain, tolerate and perform at its best in the cycling position. We use the latest evaluation and training methods, including video biomechanics, to adjust your form and improve your technique.
Many of us are cyclists ourselves, so we understand the passion you have for your sport. We’ll provide one-on-one care every step of the way so you can get back on your bike with confidence.
"Overall outstanding results. … [I’m] biking on average 70 miles per week on a very strenuous/hilly route… - Not bad after 4 knee surgeries. Thanks again to [the team]!!"
We have physical therapists who specialize in cycling and will evaluate how your body moves. We’ll use the information to analyze how this affects cycling mechanics that may lead to poor performance or injuries. Then, we’ll create a personalized treatment program to address those issues and get you back to peak cycling performance without pain.
Depending on your specific goals, your personal program may include:
- Video analysis of cycling
- Onsite adjustments to your bike and/or cleat system
- Proprioceptive exercises, which improve body awareness and joint stability
- Strength exercises
- Soft tissue and joint mobilization techniques
- Cycling-specific neuromuscular education, a technique that improves how your muscles, brain and nerves work together
- Training strategies to reduce or eliminate pain
Everyone begins the program with an initial evaluation – broken into two visits. During your first visit, we’ll perform an in-depth injury evaluation without your bike so we can focus on your body’s function. We’ll use the findings from this visit during your second appointment when we perform a Bike Fit Evaluation.
One of the unique aspects of our Cycling Program is the opportunity to have a Bike Fit Evaluation after your initial appointment. The Bike Fit is a 90-minute appointment where you bring your bike into the clinic to be evaluated and adjusted.
Fitting the bike to each rider can help reduce issues experienced during cycling like knee pain, back pain and hand numbness. The correct fit can also prevent future injuries.
During the Bike Fit Evaluation, we’ll fit the bike to your body and make adjustments based on your riding style, ensuring that the bike is optimized to move with you as efficiently as possible.
We can help anyone looking to bike more efficiently and without pain. We work with cyclists of all ages and abilities, from mountain bikers to racers and everyone in between.
This program works especially well for riders who are returning to cycling after a surgery and want to prevent pain as they return to previous levels of performance. It also benefits riders who haven’t had success with other bike fittings and physical therapy programs.
Wear cycling clothes that allow you to move freely and comfortably. Remember to bring cycling shoes to your appointment.
