Making immunizations more accessible for school-age children

Preparing for the new school year is a busy time. You have supplies to buy, schedules to coordinate and so many other errands. For many families, finding the time and money for required immunizations can be difficult.

The law in Minnesota requires that all school-age children have immunizations in order for them to be able to attend school, unless the child has written proof of exemption. Park Nicollet Foundation is proud to collaborate with school districts in order to make it easier for all children to get their back-to-school immunizations through the No Shots, No School program.

The No Shots, No School program makes it possible for children to have an immunization-only appointment at no direct charge to the parent or guardian. This means that you won’t need to schedule an entire wellness visit in order to get your child the vaccines they need. You also don’t need to be an existing Park Nicollet patient in order to schedule an immunization visit through No Shots, No School. Just accompany your child to the visit and bring their immunization records (if you have them), barrier-free immunization form and ID. A limited number of same-day immunization appointments are available.

The program begins in August and is available through the first two weeks of September. Students continue to be eligible throughout the school year if they enroll in school or need additional doses of their immunization in order to complete the series. Keep in mind that participating school districts encourage you to schedule your appointments early to help make sure that your child receives the immunizations they need on time for school – and to make sure that the immunizations are documented and sent to the school well in advance of school starting.

Download the barrier-free immunizations form

Your child’s school nurse will give you the barrier free immunization form, or you can download it here. If you have the form, bring it to your visit. If you do not have the form, you can still schedule a visit.
