Cardiac rehabilitation
Our cardiac rehabilitation program is designed to improve your heart health through exercise, education and stress management. Cardiac rehab can reduce heart symptoms and the chance of having more heart problems. Patients who experienced a cardiac event are encouraged to participate in a cardiac rehab program so they can get back to a more active lifestyle.
Our cardiac rehab team works with you to create a personalized plan based on your unique needs. A referral from your doctor is required to participate in this program.
Cardiac rehab program services
Our Safe Exercise Program is tailored to your abilities and comfort. Your heart tracing, blood pressure and weight will be monitored during your sessions. Our equipment includes a treadmill, elliptical trainer, NuStep trainer, recumbent bike, weights and TheraBands.
Education is geared to controlling risk factors such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, stress, smoking and obesity. A nutrition evaluation and counseling session with a registered dietitian is included in the program.
In addition to an individualized exercise plan, you have access to education and support across many topics, including:
- Cardiovascular function and recovery process
- Lipid levels (blood cholesterol)
- Smoking cessation
- Nutrition and weight control
- Medications
- Stress management and relaxation
- Vocational concerns
- Individual exercise choices
Your care will often begin with meeting a cardiologist, physician assistant or nurse practitioner. They’re experts on heart health and will guide you to getting the care you need. They’ll coordinate with your primary care doctor, as well as other doctors and specialists as needed, so everyone will know your story and can work together to create the best care plan for you. Your care plan may include testing, medication, monitoring or a procedure.
We also offer telecardiology appointments, connecting you with a specialist from the convenience of home. Using your phone or tablet, you can meet virtually with a Park Nicollet cardiologist.
