Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement and Medicare Cost plans are all private Medicare plans that work with Original Medicare. But each works a little differently:

• Medicare Advantage plans combine the coverage of Original Medicare Parts A and B into one plan (often called Part C). They have a network of preferred providers and often offer additional benefits and perks. Most also include Part D prescription drug coverage.
• Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans help bridge gaps in expenses associated with Original Medicare. First, Original Medicare pays its share for covered services, then your Medicare Supplement plan pays its share. After that, you’re responsible for any remaining costs.
• Medicare Cost plans offer additional benefits and perks beyond Original Medicare while also working alongside it. If you go out of network for care, your Original Medicare benefits will kick in for covered services.
