Medicare over-the-counter (OTC) benefit

Available to eligible HealthPartners Medicare and MSHO (HMO SNP) plan members

Some HealthPartners Minnesota Medicare Advantage plans and our Minnesota Senior Health Options (MSHO) plan include an allowance for over-the-counter (OTC) medications and products. This allowance is provided through NationsBenefits®. You can use your allowance when you shop on the BenefitsPro™ online app, by phone or by catalog.

Get OTC medicines, plus wellness products, at no cost

Through NationsBenefits, your eligible HealthPartners Minnesota Medicare Advantage plan or MSHO plan provides an OTC allowance each quarter (every three months). You can use it to buy medications like:

  • Pain relievers
  • Antacids
  • Cold, flu and allergy medicines
  • Sleep aids and more

You can also use your OTC allowance for well-being items like:
  • Vitamins and supplements
  • Skin care products
  • Dental and denture products
  • Eye and ear products
  • Diabetes products
  • Digestive health products
  • Incontinence supplies
  • Supports and braces
  • First aid and medical supplies
  • Household safety items and more

Your OTC allowance amount depends on your plan. You can only use your allowance during each quarter you get it in.

Journey Pace $25 per quarter ($100 per year)
Journey Stride $25 per quarter ($100 per year)

Our 2026 MSHO plan includes an OTC allowance of $75 per quarter ($300 per year) through NationsBenefits.

Your MSHO plan also covers some OTC drugs and non-drug products through Medical Assistance (Medicaid):

  • You pay nothing for items covered through Medical Assistance when your provider prescribes them.
  • To see which OTC items are eligible for Medical Assistance coverage, see your MSHO plan’s drug list (formulary) .
  • This coverage is separate from your NationsBenefits OTC allowance.

How to use your HealthPartners over-the-counter allowance

Your allowance is available to use through NationsBenefits only. But there’s no need to go to a store. There are two quick ways to order with two-day delivery:

When you go online or use the app, you can:
  • See your available allowance
  • Browse for items by category or price
  • Get product details and images
  • Order items
  • Track orders and deliveries

You can also order items or get a new catalog:

  • Over the phone at 877-270-4241 (TTY 711). Calls are taken from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Through the mail with the order form in your catalog. (Mail orders may take longer to process.)
