Orientation and onboarding

As a new employee, it is important that you take an active part in your onboarding process. In addition to the background study process we discussed during the offer, below are additional steps you need to complete to start your employment with us.

Prior to your first day

New Hire Appointment: Your offer letter included the date and time for your New Hire Appointment. This is a required appointment so if you have scheduling conflicts and cannot make it to your scheduled time, contact your recruiter right away to reschedule. Missed appointments most likely will result in a delay in employment. Please plan approximately 2 hours for this appointment.

You will come to the hospital for this appointment. The address is 640 Jackson Street, St. Paul, MN 55101. Upon arrival, park in the West Patient/Visitor parking ramp, take the elevator to the 2nd floor. You will need to navigate your way to the North Lobby and begin your appointment in the HR Service Center (N2060) where you’ll receive instructions for the following elements of your visit (please review each link so you are prepared for your visit):

  1. Completed background checks: This should be done PRIOR to your new hire appointment and as soon as you receive the link from your recruiter. Your offer of employment is contingent upon timely submission and passing all required background checks. All new hires participate in a background check through Verified Credentials, Inc. Positions with direct patient contact will also have a study done through the Department of Human Services. Please review the DHS Privacy Notice.
  2. Submit all required new hire paperwork
  3. Obtain ID badge and register for parking
  4. Employee Health Screening Appointment
Your First Day

The week prior to your start date, you will receive an email from Human Resources to confirm details about your first day and what to expect. Your first day will include completing required online Welcome Day employee training consisting of a number of modules you will need to complete. This training will be the foundation of your employment with us, including learning about our values and culture, your role in Patient Experience, policies and procedures, timecards, and payroll. If you are benefits eligible, you will also learn more about benefits.

You can also expect to hear from your leader or someone from your department prior to your first day about getting started in your new role and what you can expect with department-specific onboarding and training.

RHSC, Inc. offers a flexible benefit program, which allows you the greatest amount of flexibility in designing a package that’s just right for you! Each employee is allocated “Benefit dollars” which act as “credits” to help you pay for benefits you choose. Employees are eligible for these benefits on your hire date if hired at a .5 FTE or greater (except where noted).

Below is the information you need to consider for enrolling in your RHSC benefits. You will review benefits information on myLearning by going through the benefits module on Welcome Day. If you are a new employee to RHSC, you have to enroll for benefits via Employee Self Service (ESS). However, if you are a rehire, please email the Benefits team at for the enrollment form as you will not be able to use ESS. Benefits are effective the first day of employment.

The following documents will serve as your resource to learning more about the benefit plans we offer. It does not need to be printed.

You have 31 days from your hire date to complete and return your enrollment forms. If you do not return your enrollment forms within 31 days, the following default coverage will be assigned:

  •  Single Low Deductible for Medical
  •  Single Basic for Dental
  • Basic Life Insurance coverage
  • No AD&D coverage
  •  No Optional Employee or Dependent Life Insurance coverage
  • 60% Short Term Disability coverage
  • 60% Long Term Disability coverage
  • No Flexible Spending Account contributions
  • No Health Savings Account contributions
  • Zero (0) days of Purchased PTO
401k Retirement Plan

To enroll in 401k retirement contributions, you must follow the instructions which will be forthcoming via mail to your home from Fidelity. Or after a couple of weeks of employment, you can also log in online at to set up your contributions. If you have any questions or need assistance, contact Fidelity at 1-800-343-0860.
