With a range of birthing options at your fingertips – and the ability to have supportive partners, family and doulas by your side – your care team at Regions Hospital Family Birth Center is here to help you have the birth experience you want.
We work hard to give you a birth experience that reflects your culture and values, and we’ve partnered with our community to ensure an inclusive, loving environment for every family we serve. From specialized health equity training to having several interpreters on staff, our patients are at the center of everything we do. Regions is recognized as a Birthing-Friendly hospital by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
Every birth, labor and delivery room in our birth center is designed for your family’s comfort and convenience, including:
- Birthing and positioning balls for your use during labor
- High-speed Wi-Fi
- Personal refrigerators and milk storage
- Pull-out couches
- Televisions
- Wireless fetal monitoring so you can move around during labor
If you’re planning on a vaginal birth, our birth center will give you the flexibility to have it your way. You’ll have access to a variety of medicated and non-medicated pain management options, as well as space to move around and change positions while you labor.
We can perform cesarean births, also known as C-sections. We believe in gentle C-section deliveries that are more family centered and include the parents throughout the process.
This can mean starting skin-to-skin bonding time as quickly as possible. It can also mean starting to breastfeed right away if that’s what you’d like to do. This approach aims to keep your partner involved early on, too.
Many parents are interested in having a vaginal birth after having a cesarean, and we have a very high rate of successful vaginal birth after cesarean deliveries. If you’re interested in having a vaginal delivery after having had a previous C-section, start by talking with your OB-GYN or midwife. They can help you decide if a VBAC is right for you and how it may shape your birthing plan.
Since 2010, water birth has been an option at Regions Hospital Family Birth Center. If you’re planning a water birth, we have two dedicated rooms for water birthing, each equipped with a spacious tub right in the room.
Even if you aren’t planning a water birth, all of our rooms have hydrotherapy tubs that you can use for managing labor pain and soaking after delivery.
When it comes to pain management, your choices aren’t limited to an unmedicated birth or an epidural. We offer a range of pain management options during labor and delivery, including:
- Aromatherapy
- Epidural
- Intrathecal narcotics (ITNs)
- Nitrous oxide
- Opioids or analgesics
- Soaking in your hydrotherapy tub or private shower
Additionally, consults can be placed for services like massage therapy and guided meditation.
If you have a complex pregnancy, your care team will account for it. Our maternal-fetal medicine specialists are experts in caring for all kinds of pregnancy concerns, whether it’s a family history of complicated births or an unexpected condition that develops during pregnancy. These specialists can partner with your care team to guide you from preconception through pregnancy and look after you during the postpartum period.
And in the event that your baby needs a higher level of care after they’re born, they won’t go far. Our birth center has enhanced couplet care rooms to help keep newborns with their parents, and Regions Hospital has its own level II neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
